Lifelong love of boating inspires Twinsburg engineering firm
By SHARON SCHNALL
Thom Bucknell spent his youth boating. His family belonged to the Mentor Harbor Yachting Club; his father owned a 40-foot cabin cruiser.
To pique the three Bucknell children’s interests, the elder Bucknell bought them an 8-foot dinghy. With that dinghy, Thom explored the adjacent lagoons, marshes and swamps, and, at age 12, he entered a regatta.
“I discovered if I tied a broomstick handle to the tiller and sat up front, it would go fast,” Bucknell said. “It was just in me: I liked going fast in boats.”
